Rangers Earn Big Road Win in Niagara

June 23rd, 2017 by

The Etobicoke Rangers continued their mastery over the Niagara Metros as they won their 3rd straight against the Metros this year and counting the four game win sweep last year by the Rangers the Metros have now gone the last seven games in the league without beating Etobicoke.

The Rangers opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd inning when they hit through the order on way to a 5-0 lead. 3B Ryan Panas had two RBIs and 1B Adam McBride and CF Rob Borden drove in the other two Etobicoke runs. The Rangers went up 6-0 in the 3rd when Ranger catcher Tanner Young-Shultz, last years Rookie of the Year, hit his second long ball of the season.

Brent Cleland started for the Rangers and pitched three terrific innings giving up a hit, two walks and four strikeouts. Tyler Whealy came on to pitch a 1-2-3 fourth and picks up his 2nd win to go to 2-1 on the season. Kyle Angelow came on to pitch the 5th retiring the three hitters he faced and then in the 6th the Metros scored three runs (two earned) on four hits narrowing the score to 6-3.

The Rangers came right back in the 7th putting up a three spot then added two in the 8th and another in the 9th to make the final 12-3. Kyle Breitner picked up Angelow to begin the 7th and Breitner collected a three inning save, his 2nd of the season, and the teams 4th as he gave up two singles, a walk and struck out six Niagara hitters.

The win puts the Rangers at 9-4 in the league. Ryan Panas was 5/6 on the night including a double and 3 RBIs. The Rangers will now hope (weather permitting) to play at home Friday night against the Brampton Royals. Game time is 7:30 @ Connorvale Park.
