Metros Dropped at Home By Etobicoke

June 23rd, 2017 by

The weather finally cooperated in Niagara’s third attempt to start the week’s schedule, but it was not the start they were looking for. The visiting Etobicoke Rangers came to George Taylor Field and left their mark offensively on their way to a 12-3 victory over the Metros.

After a clean first inning, things started to go off the tracks for the Metros, as the opposition loaded the bases with nobody out. The early baserunners proved costly for Niagara, as Etobicoke was not only able to score all three of their lead-off runners, but also an additional pair in the second inning, taking an early 5-0 lead. A solo home run in the third inning pushed their cushion to six, while the Metros were simply unable to get anything cooking in the early going.

After starter Justin Ayles’ day came to a close after four innings of work, Dan Proctor came in and was able to keep the Rangers off the scoreboard for the following two innings. After this string of scoreless work, the Metros were finally able to crack the goose egg offensively and start the comeback. Ricky Ferri led things off with a triple and quickly came across to score Niagara’s first run after an RBI grounder from Taylor Anderson. Anderson then came around to score two batters later on an RBI single from Dave Davidson. Finally, base knocks from both Troy Findlay and Ryan Laird helped to bring Davidson around as well, cutting the Rangers lead in half through six innings.

That was as close as the Metros would get; however, as Etobicoke’s high-powered offense was quick to respond in the following frame. The Rangers brought another three runs across in the seventh, as well as two more in the eighth, and one in the ninth, to bring their output to 12, and ultimately putting a definitive cap on the lopsided 12-3 victory.

Niagara will look to bounce back and into the win column on Saturday, when the team travels to Milton to battle the Red Sox in a matinee affair (1:30pm). Enjoy some afternoon baseball at Milton Community Sports Complex and help cheer the Metros on.
