Red Sox Sneak Out a Late Win in Erindale

The Milton Red Sox and the Erindale Cardinals met head-on in a traditional Erindale Cardinal Field slug-fest last night with Milton pushing ahead in the top of the ninth to emerge as 12-9 victors. Both teams pounded out 14 hits apiece. Milton led 8-5 after six innings, were tied at eight runs after seven, trailed 9-8 after eight innings and then pushed across four runs in the top of the ninth, courtesy a pair of Erindale errors, to surge ahead 12- 9.

Rookie, Dan Apostoli, followed suit with three hits that included a double, SB and an RBI, while Brendan Power and Gabe Boulanger had two hits and an RBI each. James Bruce with a 2 RBI single, Kevin Greer with and RBI, and Kevin Cooper with a single, rounded out the Milton 14-hit attack. Josh Marson, the 5th of five Cardinal hurlers, was saddled with the loss.

Defensively , Milton starter, Chris Cloes, went five innings and was touched for one ER on eight hits. he walked three batters while striking out one. Dan Todoschuk came on in the 6th and was touched up for three ERs courtesy three hits and a walk. Matty Lahn took the hill in relief in the 7th and held the hit-happy Cards to one earned run over 2 2/3 innings to earn the win.

Erindale’s lead-off hitter, Pip Murray-Smith, led the way with three hits, and Chris Novia, Aaron Palmer and Greg Dodwell registred multiple hits for the Cards. Novia smashed a prodigious HR in the 7th that disappeared into the swamp-grass in left field.
