COBA Major D-Ville Bats Week 10 Player of the Week – Joe Ferreira

The COBA Major D-Ville Bats Player of the Week for Week 10 (July 2nd – July 8th) is 1B/DH Joe Ferreira of the Brampton Royals.

Ferreira played in three games during this period helping lead the Royals to a 2-1 record. They started off the week dropping a 14-8 decision to Erindale before rebounding with two wins 12-7 over Burlington on the road and 18-7 over Oakville at home. For his week, he was 7-for-15 (.467) with two singles, two doubles, a triple, two home runs and a walk. He scored three runs while collecting 10 RBI Including hitting for the cycle against Oakviile.

For his season, Ferreira is now hitting .404 (21-for-52) with seven doubles, one triple, and four home runs. He has driven in 28 runs while scoring 16 runs.

COBA Major Lazer Pro Baseball Week 10 Pitcher of the Week – Andrew Mullin

The COBA Major Lazer Pro Pitcher of the Week for Week 10 (July 2nd – July 8th) is LHP Andrew Mullin of the Erindale Cardinals.

Mullin had one appearance this week helping to lead Erindale to a 14-8 victory at home against the Brampton Royals. In this game, he tossed three shutout innings, in relief, and allowed only one hit. He walked two batters while striking out seven in collecting the win.

For his season, Mullin now sits at 3-0. In his 34 innings of work, he has allowed 19 runs, nine earned, on 31 hits good for a 2.38 ERA. He has walked 17 batters while collecting 34 strikeouts thus far.

COBA Major Zero K Bats Week 10 Team of the Week – Brampton Royals

The COBA Major Zero K Bats Team of the Week for Week 10 (July 2nd – July 8th) is the Brampton Royals Senior Baseball Team.

This past week the Royals had a solid week going 2-1. They started off the week with a 14-8 loss on the road in Erindale before defeating the Brants in Burlington 12-7 and returned home to end their week with an 18-7 win over Oakville.

With the wins last week, Brampton now sits at 8-9-2 on the season. That is good for 4th in the Andrews Division.

Rangers Edge Niagara in St. Catharines

The Etobicoke Rangers pitchers held the Niagara Metros to two earned runs and four hits last night as they edged the Metros 3-2 in St. Catharines. The Ranger’s used four pitchers as starter Adam McBride threw a solid four innings, Brent Cleland (3-1) threw two innings and picks up the win. Tyler Whealy had a 1-2-3 7th inning and then turned the ball over to big Kyle Breitner for the 8th and 9th as Breitner picked up his 3rd save as he did not give up a hit and struck out two to preserve the Ranger win.

The Rangers took an early 1-0 lead when lead off hitter CF Alex Thrower singled, stole 2nd and came around to score on a ground out by C Tanner Young-Shultz. The Rangers went up 2-0 in the 3rd inning when 3B Ryan Panas started the inning with a walk and then went to 3rd on a single by D/H A.J. Iafrate and then scored on another ground out by Young-Shultz.

The Metros narrowed the gap to 2-1 in the 4th when the Metros 1B Ryan Laird tagged a McBride pitch for a solo dinger. The Metros then tied the game in the 5th when their lead off hitter hit a fly ball to RF which was misplayed by the Ranger defender and this run came in to score on a one out ground ball. Etobicoke came right back in the 6th to re-claim the lead when 2B Mark Capone led off with a double and scored on a Panas single.

The Ranger pitching made this lead hold up as they improved to a league best 12-4-1. The Rangers out hit the Metros 7-4 and Etobicoke left 15 base runners to the Metros four. Two Errors were made by the Rangers while the Metros had four miscues.

The Rangers return home this Friday when they play the Burlington Brants @ 7:30 and then in a rare Saturday afternoon home game the Rangers @ 5pm will make up the rain out from the season opener on May 5th when the game was rained out. The Brampton Royals are the visiting team.

COBA Major Zero K Bats Week 9 Team of the Week – Etobicoke Rangers

The COBA Major Zero K Bats Team of the Week for Week 9 (June 25th – July 1st) and the 3rd time this season is the Etobicoke Rangers Senior Baseball Team. This past week the Rangers had a solid week going 2-0. They started off the week with a 19-9 victory on the road in Milton before traveling back home on Friday and defeating the Oakville A’s 11-1.

With the wins last week, the Etobicoke club now sits at 11-4-1 on the season. That is good for 1st place overall in the COBA Major Senior Baseball League.

COBA Major D-Ville Bats Week 9 Player of the Week – Daniel Murphy

The COBA Major D-Ville Bats Player of the Week for Week 9 (June 25th – July 1st) is OF Daniel Murphy of the Etobicoke Rangers.

Murphy played in two games during this week helping lead the Rangers to a 2-0 record. They won both of their games via the mercy rule this week as they defeated the Milton Red Sox 19-9 on the road before returning home and defeating the Oakville A’s 11-1. For his week, he was 5-for-9 (.556) with four singles, and a grand slam home run. He scored four runs while collecting six RBI and also added two stolen bases.

For his season, Murphy is now hitting .478 (32-for-67) with seven doubles, one triple, and two home runs. He has driven in 23 runs while scoring 24 runs and as also stolen nine bases without being thrown out yet.

The COBA Major Lazer Pro Pitcher of the Week for Week 9 (June 25th – July 1st) is RHP Dan Proctor of the Niagara Metros.

Proctor had one appearance this week helping to lead Niagara to a 3-0 victory at home against the Burlington Brants. In this game, he tossed six shutout innings and allowed only two hits. He walked two batters while striking out seven in collecting the win.

2017 LAKESIDE INVITATIONAL RULES
Game Length:
-Round robin games have a two hour and fifteen minute time limit. Umpires are to note start time with both teams.
-Playoff games have no time limit.
-In the event of a tie, play will continue until a winner is determined
-Exception, 10 run mercy rule will apply after 5 innings (4 1⁄2 with home team ahead) or any subsequent inning.
**NOTE: In the event of rain, the organizers reserve the right to change these rules, including, if necessary including time limits and that games may end in a tie.

Designated Hitter:
-Permitted for pitcher only.

Rosters:
-Maximum of 25 players

Ejections:
-Ejections will be for the game and the next one based on OBA Rules. If a more serious offence is committed, the penalty will be adjusted.

OBA Rules:
-Except as set out, OBA rules will apply. Rules are the same as for OBA tournaments.

Tie Breaking Rules:
*In tournaments where tie breaking rules are required, the following tie breaking rules will be used for each placement independently:

i. head to head record among tied teams;

ii. team with the smallest runs against ratio (runs allowed / number of defensive innings played) in games among tied teams;

iii. team with the smallest runs against ratio (runs allowed / number of defensive innings played) in all games;

iv. team with the highest runs for ratio (runs scored / number of offensive innings played) in games among tied teams;

v. team with the highest runs for ratio ( runs scored / number of offensive innings played) in all games;

vi. coin toss

*When there are 3 or more teams tied, the tiebreakers will commence at 7.3(t)(ii). After the winner of that tie breaker is determined, the tiebreakers will continue, if necessary, at 7.3(t)(ii) as long as there are 3 or more teams tied. When only 2 teams remain, the tiebreaker will start at 7.3(t)(i).
