Canadian College/University Baseball Announces League All-Star Teams

The Canadian Collegiate Baseball Association (CCBA), Ontario University Sport (OUA) and the Ontario Collegiate Athletic Association (OCAA) released their respective All-Star teams for the 2014 Canadian collegiate/university baseball season.

A few members of COBA Major League rosters found their way onto these exclusive teams after having excellent fall seasons. Oakville A’s Kyle Westwater (Guelph Gryphons) was selected as the 1st Team first baseman while Niagara Metros rookie Phil Steer (Brock Badgers) was named the OUA 1st team All-Star shortstop. Niagara hurler Justin Ayles (Brock Badgers) was named the top pitcher in the OUA as well as the 1st Team All-Star starting pitcher.

As for the OCAA, there were two COBA Major players that cracked the All-Star team. Etobicoke Rangers standout hurler Kyle Breitner (St. Clair College) was named to the squad for a second season in a row while Mississauga Twins southpaw James Byrnes (Humber College) was also selected. Breitner was also selected as the leagues Top Pitcher for a second season in a row while Milton Red Sox OF Daniel Campos (Humber College) was named the Top Hitter in the loop.

COBA Major League Announces Major Award Winners at Year End Banquet

On Thursday, October 23rd, the COBA Major League held their annual year end awards banquet in Burlington. After being treated to a fantastic meal by the staff of the Kings Court Banquet Hall, the votes were tallied and the league has now released the winners and finalists for their seven major league awards. These winners along with the team and individual award winners that were determined by regular season statistics have now been posted in a story in the news section.

Congratulations to this year’s major award winners. Hope that everyone has a safe winter and looking forward to seeing everyone back on the field in 2015.

Amendola, Dickson, Davidson, Bignall, and Novia Headline All Ontario Senior Baseball 1st All-Star Team

The Ontario Senior Baseball Blog has scoured the provincial stats and come up with the All Ontario Senior Baseball All-Star Teams as well as the major award winners for the 2014 season.

Amendola got the nod as the 1st team 3rd baseman and was a first time selection to the All-Star teams. Dickson, who was a first time 1st teamer, had another spectatular season for the Oakville A’s at SS. Bignall and Davidson were both selected as outfielders after both having great seasons for their respective teams. Davidson was a 3rd team DH last season while Bignall cracked the 2nd All-Star team as an OF. Chris Novia claimed the DH spot on the 1st team again; a spot that he has held for the past four seasons.

The rest of the provincial All-Star teams along with the major award winners can be found in the news section of the site under the recent news articles. Congratulations to all of the players from across the province who received accolades on these prestigious teams and a big thanks to G for taking to the time to compile and crunch all of the numbers to make for the great reading.

Erindale Cardinals – 2014 COBA Major League Playoff Champions

Erindale Cardinals Capture 2014 COBA Major League Playoff Championship

The COBA Major League finally wrapped up their 2014 schedule as the 2nd Playoff Weekend unfolded this past weekend in Milton. Based on their 2-0 record on Saturday, the Erindale Cardinals advanced directly to the Championship Game with a 3-1 win over Etobicoke Rangers and followed that up with an 8-2 win over Brampton. In the semi-final game, Etobicoke defeated Brampton 5-2 to advance to Sunday and take on Erindale.

In the very entertaining final, Erindale used a late rally to take a 4-3 lead only to have Etobicoke answer back with one run in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game and send the game to extra innings. In the 8th inning, Erindale was able to tack on two runs and keep the powerful Ranger bats at bay as they won the game 6-4 capturing their first Barry Dobson Trophy since 2009 and bringing the 2014 season to a close.

We will still be doing some posting throughout the winter months about some different topics but I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the COBA Major Teams and Players for their support in helping make the site a huge success this year. Hopefully everyone that followed throughout the year enjoyed the content on the site and I look forward to the start of the 2015 COBA Major League season.
