Breitner To Receive Honor at Blue Jays Game in May

Whitey Etobicoke

Steve Breitner, far right, pictured here with Bobby Smyth, Mike “The General” Gauthier, the late Nick Rico, and Greg O’Halloran…

Steve Breitner had a pretty good career on the mound over his years of playing baseball. On May 29th, he will get the chance to throw out the first pitch on the big stage at the Rogers Center for the Blue Jays game. The Etobicoke Rangers bench boss is heading into his 27th year at the helm of the senior team and will be honored by the Jays for his years of service to baseball both in Etobicoke and around Ontario.

The opposition for the Jays that night will be the Cincinnati Reds & former Etobicoke Ranger standout Joey Votto who got his first swings in senior baseball under the watchful eye of Breitner. Game time is slated for 7:05pm but if you would like to see Whitey toe the rubber his pitch will be around 6:00pm.

That weekend on Saturday, May 27th, the Rangers will be hosting the Oakville A’s for a double header at Connorvale Park. That day will be “Family Day at the Park” for the Etobicoke Alumni and current players. Players from other teams are invited to come out and join in the festivities as the first pitch for game one will be at 11:00am followed by game two at approximately 1:30pm.

Over 200 players, alumni, and family members are expected to attend both events. Should be a great weekend of baseball for the Etobicoke Rangers organization and the COBA Major League! Congrats Whitey!!
