COBA Major League Legend Ken Johnson Passes Away

It is with a great deal of sadness that the COBA Major Senior Baseball League announces the passing of Ken Johnson. Johnson was an avid player and builder within the COBA Major League for a great number of years. There will be an announcement in the Hamilton Spectator on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Following that, there will be a Celebration of life for Ken on Friday June 23rd at 1:00pm at the Bay Gardens Cremation Funeral & Memorial Centre. The address is 1010 Botanical Drive Burlington, Ontario L7T 1V1. There will be a reception following the service.

On behalf on the entire league, we send out of deepest condolences to the Johnson Family during this very difficult time.

Paul Eclipses Metros All-Time Games Record

Jon Paul 522

Jon Paul played in his 522 game last night as a part of the Niagara Metros Senior Baseball Club…

History was made in St. Catharines last night as long time P/INF Jonathan Paul set a new games played record playing in his 522 game as a part of the Niagara Metros organization. The native of Perth, ON surpassed the previous mark set by Metros legend Brad Namtzu when he was penciled into the lineup last night in their home game against the Oakville A’s. JP is currently playing in his 15th season with the blue and white and has been an invaluable asset to the club every year he has played.

Many of the different alumni were able to get out to George Taylor Field last night to partake in the festivities. To say what Jon Paul has meant to the Niagara program and the COBA Major Baseball League would be an understatement but many of the former players and coaches along with current teammates and some of Jon’s family members will let you know how much he has meant. The following is an article with quotes from many who have shared the field, are currently playing with Jon, and even from his family members as well.

Paul Surpasses Metros All-Time Games Played Record

Congratulations JP on reaching this milestone in your career!!

Steve Breitner shares a hug with former Etobicoke Ranger and current Cinninati Reds 1B Joey Votto after delivering the ceremonial first pitch in last night’s series opener at the Rogers Center…

It was an emotional night last night at the Rogers Center in Toronto as Etobicoke Rangers veteran bench boss Steve “Whitey” Breitner was honored by the Toronto Blue Jays organization for his service and commitment to baseball both for the Etobicoke Rangers Senior Baseball Club as well as the province of Ontario. Click the link below which will take you to the story about the night at the Rogers Center which was summed up beautifully by Bob Elliott (@elliottbaseball) at the Canadian Baseball Network.
