Apology for League Website

I would like to quickly apologize to those who usually follow the site for the maintenance of the site in the later months of the season this year. I was having problems logging into the site and updating the content because of extenuating circumstances which made for a very bad look on the site. I have now rectified those issues and the site seems to be functioning at full capacity now. Look for more info to be posted at a later date with regard to league award nominees and winners after the awards banquet in October.

Milton Red Sox Capture 2015 COBA Major Playoff Title

Congratulations to the Milton Red Sox who captured the 2015 COBA Major League Playoff Title back in August. After dropping their first game to the Etobicoke Rangers in extra innings, the Red Sox ran the table the rest of the way to capture the title; their second in five years. They defeated the feisty Niagara Metros in the Championship Game on Sunday to lock up the playoff title. Congrats goes out to all of the Milton players, Head Coach/Manager George Moore, Asst Coaches Matt “Bonesy” McCandless and Mike “Stainer” Austin on a very successful playoff run. Up next is the league banquet which will take place in Burlington on Thursday, October 22nd. Looking forward to seeing all players and coaches out for a wonderful night of food and accomplishments.

Tecumseh Jr. Thunder Run The Table To Capture 2015 Lakeside Invitational Tournament Title

The Tecumseh Jr. Thunder Baseball Club had a very successful weekend in London running the table at 5-0 and capturing the tournament title. This was the second year in a row that the Jr. Thunder squad reached the final as they fell last year to the Thunder Sr. squad in extra innings. This year they would not be denied though as they went 3-0 in pool play defeating the Erindale Cardinals (14-2), East York Bulldogs (4-2) and the Sarnia Braves (9-3).

Based on their plus/minus rating and defensive runs allowed, the Jr. Thunder claimed the 1st seed for the playoff round and a bye into the semi-finals. In that game, the Thunder locked horns with the Etobicoke Rangers, fresh off a 5-4 victory over the Sr. Thunder in the quarter-finals. This game looked like it was going to be done quick as the Thunder jumped out to a 6-0 lead but Etobicoke battled back tying the game at 6-6 before Tecumseh tacked on three more runs in a 9-6 victory.

In the final, the Jr. Thunder took full advantage of a depleted and tired Michigan Area Braves team as they won the final in convincing fashion by a score of 12-2 in 6 innings. Shane Courtney, who was 2-0 on the weekend, picked up the win in the final. Congrats to Head Coach Dave Cooper and all of the Tecumseh Jr. Thunder organization on a great showing this weekend.

East York Captures Vaughan Title Over Etobicoke in Marathon Championship Game

The Vaughan Vikings Invitational Tournament wrapped up yesterday with the East
York Bulldogs taking on the Etobicoke Rangers in the Championship Game. With both teams running on fumes, these two powerhouses slugged it out for 12 innings before the Bulldogs Kyle Moloney hit a walk off single in the bottom of the 12th to give East York at 13-12 victory and their first Vaughan Tournament Title. This was Etobicoke’s second trip to the finals in three years as they won the tournament back in 2013.

East York earned their way to the finals by defeating the host Vaughan Vikings 4-0 in the quarter-finals and then went on to defeat the Brampton Royals by a score of 7-5 in the semi-finals. Etobicoke’s road to the finals started with a victory over league mates the Niagara Metros 5-2 in the quarter-finals and beat the Oakville A’s 12-2 in the semi-finals.

Congrats to Sal Stabile, Adam Panagopka and the whole East York team on their great weekend in Vaughan. Also congrats to Steve Breitner and the Etobicoke crew on a strong showing at this event. Full results can be found in the results link listed below this article.
